Investing in skills and education

Queensland needs a robust education and training sector that contributes to sustainable, value-added economic growth. Investment in skills and education underpins Queensland’s future prosperity. This is particularly relevant given Queensland is a high growth state suffering from a chronic skills shortage.

Under the State Labor Government our schools are under resourced, the curriculum falls short, kids struggle with the basics and the re-introduction of the prep year is falsely hailed as the panacea to all problems.

The training system is also failing young Queenslanders. There is a lack of employer participation in the training of the workforce, businesses’ needs are ignored and small businesses in particular are hamstrung by administrative burdens and impractical programs.

The Queensland Coalition is committed to implementing initiatives that inspire young people to learn and developing a culture that encourages more Queenslanders to discover and innovate.

Our plan is a practical and straight forward approach to educating our kids, getting the basics right, skilling our workforce and creating more opportunities for businesses to be involved. This plan involves listening to teachers, not bureaucrats; increasing resources in the education and training sector; reforming State taxes and enhancing and diversifying the way training is developed and delivered.

The State Labor Government’s Smart State is little more than a slogan promoted by glossy brochures and expensive advertising campaigns delivering no outcomes, but plenty of press releases for the Premier.

The Queensland Coalition will ensure Queensland is a far smarter state and deliver real outcomes – better educated kids and a highly skilled and competitive workforce.
