Restoring trust in Government

The reign of the sleazy State Labor Government has been marred by a culture of secrecy, cover ups and crises. State Labor sank to a new low when they introduced legislation in 2006 that made it legal to lie to Parliament. The laws were introduced to protect the then Labor Government Minister – Gordon Nuttall, currently before the criminal courts for allegations of corruption.

The sleazy State Labor Government has demonstrated its contempt for democracy and ethical conduct by using the Parliament to try and legitimise its penchant for secrecy, concealment and underhanded dealing while restricting public debate on important issues. The State Labor Government will be remembered by a long, long list of electoral rorters, former Ministers appearing before the criminal courts and shady deals with Labor mates in the business communities.

It is not surprising then, that Queenslanders have lost faith in their Government.

Queenslanders rightly expect their Government to provide them with services in an honest, open and accountable manner. The Queensland Coalition is committed to restoring trust in Government by introducing sweeping measures to bring accountability back and restore trust.

The Queensland Coalition’s plans involve strengthening FOI measures, toughening whistleblower protection, ensuring budgetary transparency and providing independence to a selection of Government CEOs and judicial posts.

The reign of the cosy and secret sleazy State Labor Government must come to an end and people must have proper faith and trust in their electoral officials. Restoring trust in Government will be our highest priority.
